The sign says it all ” No ball playing. Police take notice.” Every October America’s youths take to the street for love of the country’s pastime: Baseball. Even in an off year, when the local team finished in last place, throngs of youths take over the streets for games of stick ball. They pretend they are their favorite players, like Mike Greenwell, or Wade Boggs. They may number in the single digits, and play fungo, or dozens of them take over for games of fast pitch.
Storage Plus Uhaul has taken a stance against the youths with the “No ball playing” sign. The building’s manager said the sign sends a clear message. “They leave bubble gum and soda bottles around. Stole all my broom handles to make sticks. We are standing up to the riff-raff. Storage rules.” Says the manager, a Waltham resident KM. He prefers not to use his full name, for fear of retaliation at his home, such as flaming bags of dog poo.
